Keywords that define things, like OPTIONS or CHART, use curly brackets { }. Functions (user-defined, built-in, and also keywords like VAL or SUBST) use normal brackets ( ).

Expressions can use all bracket types permitted by Office Math, including bracket sizing with left</code< and right.
